WORK TECHNIQUES In working at heights there are three main Work Techniques units: basic techniques, which qualify technicians to several situations; specific techniques, which endow technicians with special skills to accomplish their task; and rescue techniques, which enable technicians to carry out rescue and deliverance operations. 20% of the existing staff should bear in mind this situation. BASIC TECHNIQUES GENERAL PRINCIPLES IN WORKING AT HEIGHTS – “The first security factor for work organization, regardless hierarchic positions, is a qualified and assuredly trained team.”WORK POSITIONING – “Work positioning techniques, limitation and fall prevention should not only be able to prevent workers from falling as also should improve productivity. ”ASCENT and DESCENT Up access – “This type of access decrease worker’s risk of fallen down as he or her is hanging by a rope during descent”. Down access – “Workplace access by its bottom could be difficult. There are several techniques to accomplish this task, for example alpine ascending”. FALL and BLOCKING SYSTEM – “When a fall occurs the blocking system is conceived to minimize its effects (reduce strength, avoid or reduce the impact)”. RESCUE – “Top priority when someone is injured or unconscious is to release him or her from his or her hanging position. Finally he or she should be moved to a safety zone where medical help can take place”. SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES ROOFS and SLOPES – “The risks of falling down from roofs and slopes are real and setting up group protections is, sometimes, difficult to carry out. Anyhow, workers should keep their hands free to bear their minds in task”. : forward |
